Born on February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama, Rosa Parks was named "The Mother of the Freedom Movement" and called by the U.S. Congress, "The First Lady of Civil Rights." She is well known for her stand against racial segregation on public buses in Montgomery, Alabama. When asked to give up her seat, she refused to give up her seat for a white man and was arrested and charged with violating the part of the Montgomery City code that dealt with segregation laws. This arrest then led to the Montgomery bus boycott. However, no matter what city she lived in, she found a way to stay involved in the community and voice her thoughts and feelings about inequalities in society.
